Traditional behaviour plans often fail because they are often reactive and punitive, rather than helping adults understand what is going on beneath the behaviours. Here we discuss a different approach: one that views behaviour as communication, considers nervous system dysregulation and the window of tolerance, and helps educators and families respond earlier, more thoughtfully and more effectively.

Inclusion is now firmly part of the language of education, but the practical “how” is not always clearly shared with teachers and education support staff. Real disability inclusion is about more than placing students in the room. It means understanding what each student needs to participate with dignity, reducing unnecessary barriers, and recognising that fairness does not always mean every child receiving exactly the same thing.
